Meet Sam Harris

Sam is a registered secondary teacher, who has worked in schools as a teacher in charge of History as well as an Across School Teacher within a Kāhui Ako (community of learning). In these roles, Sam has worked extensively with teachers on their use of digital technologies in the classroom and has worked collaboratively to establish localised teaching and learning opportunities that are connected and relevant to students lives.

Sam has a postgraduate qualification in digital and collaborative learning and has been a Microsoft Innovative Expert Educator (MIEE). Sam is passionate about curriculum design and is particularly excited about the role that digital technologies can play in transforming teaching and learning experiences through the New Zealand Curriculum refresh and coming NCEA changes.

Hands on Microsoft Tricks and Tips Session 

Many teachers have used Windows and Office 365 for a large portion of their career but are often unaware of many of the features built into these tools that can make your life easier! In this webinar, Sam will showcase a range of trips and tricks for using Windows devices and different Office 365 tools. Learn how to improve your productivity by improving how you navigate between folders and files and utilising a range of features of the OneNote, Word, Excel and PowerPoint that you may have never used before.

Using Teams for Education effectively 

In this webinar, Sam will unpack how to set up Class and Staff teams to ensure that you are able to use these tools to their full potential. Teams is a tool designed separate and focus workflow, and this session will explore what this looks like in a teaching and learning setting. Learn tricks to create view only folders for resources in teams and how to restrict channels to certain people or groups. Time will also be spent exploring the ways in which classwork can be assigned to students through Teams and when to use different assignment tools.

Effective use of OneNote Class Notebook 

OneNote is a fantastic tool for helping students keep their classwork organised, but many schools are under-utilising OneNote or simply not using it effectively. In this session, Sam will unpack what the OneNote Class Notebook is, how to manage it and dos and don’ts for seamless OneNote use with students. In this session we will learn more about how to efficiently assign pages from a OneNote to your students through Teams and best practice for setting up OneNote based learning activities.

Literacy and communication tools in Office 365 

In this webinar, Sam will explore a range of Microsoft tools that aim to enhance reading and writing instruction in schools. During this session we will explore the immersive reader in Edge, Word and OneNote, Reading Progress in Teams and Reading Coach as supports for literacy education in schools. Time will also be spent exploring the speech to text functions of Teams and PowerPoint as well as Editor in Word.
