Historically this arrangement provided excellent value for money when most schools had servers requiring Microsoft licenses, however we have seen a significant shift towards cloud based alternatives. The Ministry recognises that there are some schools still dependent on licenses for certain applications that aren’t yet available as a cloud alternative or your school have not migrated to them, so funding will continue for Microsoft Windows Server licenses for 2026 for schools with such requirements. As a result, schools will now be licensed for individual servers rather than relying on the former unlimited licensing approach. To access and use these funded Windows Server licenses in 2026, schools must apply and complete this registration form by 03.10.2025.
