Esports offers players opportunities to make connections and form communities of organised play.

In education, esports can be integrated with a games-based learning approach, promoting future ready skills and career technical education (CTE) pathways, and prepares students for careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

In this workshop teachers will learn how to…

  • Setup and implement a Minecraft esports programme within their school
  • Explain why esports belongs in education
  • Safeguarding and Online Safety for students
  • Recognise the health and wellbeing of students and using esports as a driver in this.
  • Inspire the Gamers in your classrooms to recognise that a healthier, sport driven lifestyle can lead to industry careers.

You will also receive:

  • Tips and tricks from the PLD Team Minecrafters
  • Work towards the esports Microsoft Badge
  • Take part in a Minecraft Build Challenge

Who is this Programme for?

This workshop is designed for Teachers with some experience with Minecraft: Education Edition who teach Years 6 – 9.

Empowering teachers to transform their classrooms with training, tools, and resources.

This growing industry has a great many connections to roles such as game design, coding, data analytics, technical set up and management, streaming, event organization, marketing, social media and brand management, and more. These employment opportunities offered by the growing esports industry are in addition to those directly associated with the gameplay itself, such as coaching, team management and esports athletes.

In partnership with Microsoft Aotearoa and to support the growth of esports the Cyclone PLD Team are running online workshops throughout February. By taking part in the workshop, you will become part of a nationwide community of teachers. You will build connections with teachers in your region, across the country and on a global scale with opportunities for your students to take part in the Minecraft Global Build Challenge and Minecraft Masters. In this workshop, you will learn how to use Minecraft: Education Edition in esports to develop an esports Club within your school community. By taking part in the programme, you will also work towards a Microsoft qualification as an esports leader.

You will be supported with Minecraft Resources to use with your students and the in-person event will be supported by a series of online “Office Hours” session with the PLD Team following the regional event and to help with the Global Build Challenge in 2022.
